There was something--be comprised of c hatch that someone--missing from Santa Clara Valley's high school football vista this fall.
Veteran referee Chuck Camuso and his white hat were out of the lineup for the first heretofore since 1958. After 53 years of officiating, Camuso, at age 77, retired till to the 2011 season. He had worn his striped shirt and knickers for the last at the same time--or so he thought.
With a bit of encouragement from longtime officiating colleague Jim Bruno, Camuso came out of retirement for one last pretend--the annual Thanksgiving Day Big Bone rivalry between Lincoln and San Jose.
For Camuso, who had only missed one Bone game since 1960 (he was hospitalized during the 1985 contest), it was the 50th interval he was part of the officiating crew for the Thanksgiving affair.
"It was not a very good game--Lincoln won 52-7--but it was a fun last adventurous," Camuso said. "Bruno and John Pletsch, the assignor, were skilled to put together a special crew for this No. 50.
