Refuge ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Residents say cats are taking over a Treasure Glide neighborhood and because of CBS 12's investigation into the issue, the city of Port St. Lucie is intriguing action.

Nelsa Fortes wakes up fuming mad, smelling one emotional attachment.

"Poop everywhere," said Fortes.

When she comes home from a long day at labour to her home on SE Shelter Drive in Port St. Lucie, it's the the same thing daily.

"Poop all over and it starts getting annoying after a while," said Fortes.

Fortes and other neighbors, who wouldn’t go on camera, say the question started a few years ago, but they can’t take much more of it. Cats ducking under dumpsters, diving for flapdoodle and seeming to quickly multiply.

"My neighbor next door, I believe she feeds them," Talent said.

We knocked on the door of the neighor who Fortes said is feeding the cats. The mate at the door didn’t answer our inquiry. Instead slammed and locked the door.
