"This is the first think up of its kind in the world where sisal residue will be used to generate 300 kilowatts of tension to sisal factories and lighting in homes," Mr Kissaka said. The Hale Sisal plantation is owned by Katani Fixed.
He said the factory was now operating smoothly and without the frustrating power cut hitches from the Tanzania Electrifying Supply Company (TANESCO).
"When the research started, UNIDO chipped in and supported the achievement, which later resulted into the successful generation of electricity," the general superintendent explained and added:
"We are now planning to generate at least one megawatts (MW) of electricity and retail the extra units to the national grid," Mr Kissaka noted.
Earlier, one of the premature persons behind the project, Mr Francis Nkuba, said they involved more stakeholders in the harmonious ' project to enable the transfer of technology used to spread to all other sisal growing areas in the sticks.
"We need this type of power project to liberate Tanzanians from power fine kettle of fish," he said, saying that National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has agreed to record into partnership to expand the power generation drive for the benefit of the hinterlands.
