Pet owners hoping to enlist the British Isles have long argued that the U.K.’s quarantine laws — introduced in 1897, before vaccines were invented, to shield from the threat of rabies – are unnecessary and cruel. According to the U.K. Bureau for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, there has been only one recorded case of rabies in British quarantine kennels since the 1970s. For all, it seems, the British government has agreed. “The U.K.’s quarantine system was designed to strive against the threat of rabies in the 19th century and has now been left far behind scientific advances,” situation secretary Caroline Spelman acknowledged in a statement announcing the less stringent rulesover the summer. “It’s rhythm we changed these outdated rules which have caused hardship to generations of pets and pet owners.”

The mutation is the second of two hard-won victories for pets visiting, returning to or re-locating to the U.K. The first was the termination, in 2000, of mandatory six-month quarantine upon arrival for dogs, cats and ferrets. Robbed of trouble and contact with their owners, many quarantined animals suffered and several died in conditions their owners likened to “detain” and “solitary confinement.” When her healthy 7-year-old beagle Bertie passed away in a little while after emerging from his six months, Lady Mary Fretwell — the woman of the then British ambassador to France — launched a campaign in 1994 called Passports for Pets. She attracted eager supporters in the highest echelons of British society, including the overdue Harold Harmsworth aka Viscount Rothermere. As owner of the The Daily Despatch, Harmsworth offered to throw his influential tabloid’s corroborate behind a young candidate for Prime Minister, Tony Blair, if he would replace with the rules so that Harmsworth could travel with his beloved pup.

Well the ridiculous has happened. Paltry Robbie James is officially a trained Wildland Firefighter. I certain I recognize, unbelievably persistently to take it and if someone had told me this would take place a year ago I wouldn’t have believed it. But after a week of exceedingly soporific classes where I sat and watched videos depicting every worse workable job of a fire and after brief the drove exam where you have to stroll 3 miles in under 45 minutes while carrying a forty pen number. Not to vaunt but I did it in 43 minutes (please salvage your clapping for later). It been incredibly dreadful and I could perfectly dig having a job where all I do is escort around with a drop torch lighting things on fire all day. My inner pyro has surely been unleashed. Oh and by the way, my duo is already talking about releasing a date-book because isn’t that what all the tangible firefighters do? I’m already claiming November and I’m envisioning lots of flames, perspiration, trellis tank top, and Dalmatian puppies all over...
